Experience the Sky
Create a new way to live the light in indoor spaces, reconnecting man with the natural environment he's from: this is the ambition of CoeLux®, a high-tech company established in 2009, headquartered in ComoNExT Technology Park nearby the renowned Como Lake in Italy. A team of physicists, chemists, engineers, architects and designers led by Professor Paolo di Trapani - the company founder and CEO - from University of Insubria in Como has been working for 15 years to improve the technology that challenges architecture: artificially reproduce man's essential experience of being an opening to the universe.
CoeLux's mission is promoting innovative solutions for lighting, architecture and real-estate industries aiming at creating the perception of an extraordinarily wide space, by means of a genuine physical reproduction of optical atmospheric phenomena indoors.
CoeLux® is an artificial window that recreates the effect of warm sunlight along with the blue scattered light of the sky reproducing typical outdoor lights, shapes and volumes inside, delivering well-being and positivity. The optical system works thanks to the combination of three main elements: a cutting-edge LED technology that reproduces the sunlight's spectrum, direction and brightness, optical systems that reproduce the endless distance of the sky and the sun and millimetre-thick nano-structured materials that create the Rayleigh scattering process which produces the light and the colour of the sky in the atmosphere.
CoeLux® lighting systems reproduce the experience of the sun and the sky indoors, especially in an underground environment or in a space with no windows. The experience is so surreal and powerful it can utterly change the perception of space allowing to perceive real light in the real world in a completely new and surprising way.
CoeLux® technology is ideal for all types of indoor architecture, being able to recreate indoor lights, shapes and volumes that are typical of the outdoor for a new dimension of architectural space. The sensorial and emotional experience of CoeLux® technology allows to avoid interrupting the natural dialogue with the sun especially inside blind or hypogeal environments or in adverse weather conditions. Well-being and environmental comfort: all the CoeLux® systems bring the illuminating benefits of sunlight in homes, offices, shops, airports, shopping malls, hotels, wellness centres, museums, hospital rooms with apparatuses of nuclear diagnostic.
High‐end systems (CoeLux® 45 HC, CoeLux® 45 LC, CoeLux® SQUARE and CoeLux® 60 HC) excel for the faithful reproduction of both the light and the almost infinite natural wideness as in presence of a window or of a big skylight. One distinct “sun” bursts down into the scene through the opening, either on the ceiling or on the wall. Objects shine in the exceptional light and cast sharp and blue-toned shadows, colored by the sky. Both sun and sky are at infinite distance, as for a real-window case.
The CoeLux® ST systems, thanks to their dimmerability allow to vary the light in the same way the sunlight actually varies. Using CoeLux® ST and the light of the environment you can create different scenarios that reproduce the entire course of the day: from morning to night, from afternoon to evening. CoeLux ST® allows man to give a response to his needs, of light, of dark or of twilight.
CoeLux® ST IBLA
The CoeLux® ST is a fairly compact module, suitable for many different settings, creating an artificial window facing a luminous sky, traversed by the rays of a bright sun. The main distinguishing feature of CoeLux® ST is that the sun is not directly visible. The rays of sun reach the eye after being reflected, diffused, refracted and diffracted by the louvre, miming the interaction of the sunlight with clouds, water, foliage, snow etc. Alternatively, they may only hit the window light-well and make it shine, as they do in nature with stone-walls against the sky.
Ibla is the name of one of the areas of the historical city centre of Ragusa, in South-West Sicily, which is now famous around the world for the treasures of its architecture. The district is a dense built up area of houses and churches made up of blocks of local limestone on top of a hill. In the heat of the summer, when the sun is almost unbearable, the walls and the roofs bounce off the sunlight which feels even warmer due to the stone's white-amber colour, as the narrow glimpses among the street let the unattainable blue cool of the sky in.
CoeLux® ST IBLA offers an artificial window featuring a clear opening to the sky without any element in the way, despite being positioned at the bottom of a deep well of light. Like NAOS, the contrast between sky and sun lies inside the well itself which produces utterly uniform lighting in the room.
