The name of the HEX-O comes from the hexagonal, futuristic form of the luminaire’s body. The series was developed by Designstudio 13&9 from Graz, in cooperation with the R&D department at XAL. The fantastic end-product combines the latest in LED lighting technology with highly efficient sound-absorbers, in reflection of the fact that modern-day communications involve demanding requirements for indoor areas. In particular, functional modern buildings – often housing public offices – can become unpleasantly loud as there is a tendency to use ‘acoustically hard’ materials such as glass and architectural concrete. In such cases, the lack of sound-absorbing properties can lead to unfavourable acoustic conditions. This is precisely what HEX-O is designed for, because its absorbers help to reduce background noise levels and improve speech intelligibility, with a positive effect on the communication environment.

The lighting technology used in HEX-O provides uniform, glare-free illumination, making it the perfect lighting system for work and meeting areas. For its light source, the luminaire uses only high-efficiency LEDs with CRI 85 and colour temperature options of 3000 K and 4000 K. Using the latest generation of LEDs with 170 lm/W at 4000 K and 25°C, HEX-O achieves an outstanding efficiency of up to 122 lm/W.
The elegant form and modular design of this lighting system, which is available as surface-mounted or luminaires suspended from the ceiling by cables, make it one of the defining elements in a room and allow great latitude for architectural creativity.
